BRING YOUR PARENTS TO WORK DAY

Director / Production Lead / Post Supervisor

Barkley already celebrated Take Your Kids to Work Day. We figured it was only fair to give the parents a turn.

So we flipped it.

I helped concept the idea and then had to figure out how to actually pull it off in a working agency, with real employees, real clients, and real work that still needed to get done.

Parents came to work with their kids, sat in on client calls, helped draft emails, and got a firsthand look at what their children actually did all day. Or at least tried to. Explaining what a “social media strategist” does to your parents is apparently its own team-building exercise.

I brought my own mom in for the day, too. She only cried a few times, which I’m choosing to count as a success.

I directed the film, led production, and supervised post, capturing all the awkward, funny, and surprisingly sweet moments that came from parents spending a day in their kids’ professional lives.

It worked well enough that we kept doing it for years. What started as a simple idea became a Barkley tradition and one of those programs that quietly did a lot for company culture, both inside the building and out.
